I've never heard of Aldi's but it sounds like shopping in Sweden. I've often wondered why we don't have those quarter locks on the carts here.

We have an Aldi's store where I love in south central PA.  I went there one time and one time only because my experience wasn't the most pleasant of experiences.  I didn't mind how the items were on pallets and I did notice that most of the items were much cheaper than at the grocery store.  But the most of the produce was rotten, there were ripped open boxes of crackers and dry goods strewn about the place, and the floor needed a desperate washing.  It just gave me the heebie jeebies so I don't think I'll be going back there.  Hopefully the Aldi's where you girls shop are much cleaner!!

It's a German chain, that's probably why it sounds like shopping in Sweden.

There is a hilarious post about shopping at Aldi "in the hood" on that White Trash Mom blog (PC used to have a link to it on her blog).  It was awhile ago, so it may take some time to find, but it was really funny and worth a read if you shop at Aldi.

The one's around here are nice actually- I watched a documentary on Food network about it, the products in Aldis are made by Kellog, General Mills, Nabisco, etc- all the big name brands, but they package it and give it a different name and send it to Aldi's stores- it's another way for the manufacturers to make more $$, another avenue of income- my mom shops there a lot in her town and everythhing is actually very good-- she gets a lot of dry goods, and frozen things there, and cereal---anyway, funny story!!

I'm a total grocery store snob. We have ALDI's and I avoid it (yes, cheap - and yes, totally gross inside, at least the last time I remember going, which was years ago!). We have Sav-A-Lot, too, which is pretty much like Aldi. I do run in there from time to time because it's so close, but pretty much same *interesting* experience as Aldi. And, if you want to bag your groceries, you have to bring your own bags or BUY them there! They do throw up some empty food boxes in the front of the store (and I do mean throw), but those aren't always available.

I go to a more pricey store that carries a lot of organic stuff - hard to find. And, they carry my groceries to the car and load it up for me, which when I have a cranky toddler in 100 degree heat - I just don't mind paying more for that! Or 20 degree cold - either way, it sucks!

Where my mom and dad live, they have this swanky grocery store. I can't remember the name. Even the bags were so nice you could practically use them for a gift bag. They always loaded it in your car. You just pulled up your car to this port and they'd be waiting there with your cart full of stuff. They had the neatest products in there. I think if you were single, I'd way go there to shop to find a husband!

We shop at Aldi for almost everything.  We average spending about $50 per week to feed our family of four.  I love it!!!!

Please don't -boo- me but I am a grammar snob... and when it comes to misused apostrophes.... ugh.... makes me CRAZY!

Aldi is the name of the store, not someone's name - so it's not Aldi's because its not named after anyone named Aldi... its not his store... it's just a name.

That would be like saying 'I love shopping at Wal-Mart's' or 'Target's is my favorite place for clothes'

The only reason I know is because my husband is from Germany and since its a German chain ... well he always says 'Let's go to Aldi' not 'Let's go to Aldi's'

OK but please don't boo me!!

That is so funny because we always make fun of my SIL because she always calls Kroger "Kroger's", but she calls Big Lots "Big Lot"....she does it with everything--if it doesn't have an s she adds one, but if it does--she leaves it off!

We love her to death and get a great deal of amusement from her as well! wink

Hey! Back when I lived in Ohio I called Kroger "Kroger's", and Aldi "Aldi's".

I know it's retarded - it's just a habit I fell into because everyone around me said those stores' names like that..... oh well. faint

Well I am always changing words, my friends just laugh at me all the time... Me and my little accent, my first language is Spanish so I sometimes get lazy or just confuse with the past or present tense....   hmmm I guess that makes me unique! You probably already notice.....    tongue

I used to have a friend that called Famous Barr "Famous and Barr". It used to drive me nuts. It's now Macy's, and I haven't seen her in years. When they made the switch, I thought of her and was glad that she wasn't out there saying Famous and Barr anymore.

My pet peeve is spelling things incorrectly on purpose (primarily stores) - Sav-a-Lot, for instance. And my all time hated store mispelling - we have this gas station called "Kum 'n Go". Besides making me conjure up sexual imagery I'd rather not, it just drives me crazy! And I also hate "Olde Tyme" anything.

See, PPA isn't the only one needing some coffee - or something! I wish my brain wouldn't do that, but I've never been able to shut it off!

Well Baroness, in a way I can related to you because that's the way I was back home with the Spanish. I am nuts when it comes to grammar and I am the kind of person who is a perfectionist.
Unfortunately when I moved to the States I had a really hard time on learning the language just because of the same thing I was stressing out because I didn't know how to say things and here I am 6 years later, I still have a little accent, but everyday I try hard to get better and I know one day will be completely fixed.. But for now I've been able to communicate really well. dance
