Well Baroness, in a way I can related to you because that's the way I was back home with the Spanish. I am nuts when it comes to grammar and I am the kind of person who is a perfectionist.
Unfortunately when I moved to the States I had a really hard time on learning the language just because of the same thing I was stressing out because I didn't know how to say things and here I am 6 years later, I still have a little accent, but everyday I try hard to get better and I know one day will be completely fixed.. But for now I've been able to communicate really well. dance

My husband is from Germany (like I said) and he still struggles with saying certain things.  He's been here going on 8 years, but it took me until 6 months ago to get him to say 'Wal-Mart' instead of 'Wal-Mark'.  He KNEW it was MART but he kept saying MARK.

Also, just this past weekend I was needing some coffee or a nap or something when he told me to 'Come down' and I said, 'It's CALM down ... C-A-L-M'

So I guess I am more forgiving of people where English is their second language, but only for the first 7 years.  After that, you better step up!  evil

I was referring to aldi as a plural, meaning, many stores, so I did put aldis- smiley grammar police are on the lookout, we must reform our ways! smiley just kidding- no offense taken-  however, I am trying to drive you nuts in this post by using crazy punctuation-  wink

Baroness, that is so funny about Kum n Go--my sister refuses to write that on the checks, so she just puts the name of what it used to be (I can't remember what it was).  I don't live "back home" anymore, so that was a new one!

Macy's has also renamed our local department store chain, too, but I know I've been here too long when I still call it Rich's.  The really funny thing is that all the Macy's used to be Davison's, and there are still plenty of people who call all the Macy's "Davison's" even though they are now Bloomingdale's, and all the Rich's are now Macy's.

Thing just are not allowed to change in the South.  Now I need to fetch my pocketbook because I'm fixin' to carry Mother and Daddy over to the Wal-Mart.  wink

Well, when it comes to the 'net, grammar is hard to  police and even I am not perfect - but I know plenty of people type the way that they talk - so the Aldi's thing stuck out.

Anyway, I got this in an email and it seemed appropriate for this thread...

I wonder if this lady is secretly a  Kaybot and that's what she's talking about - she doesn't have to -dress up- for Wal-mart and she goes to Dollar Palace for the fabulous gifts she gives to her consultants!!

I am so ashamed that I had actually dressed up for Wal-mart in my own  Kaybot days...  groan

I'm pretty sure that was on "Headlines" on the Tonight Show.  Hubby and I always watch them on Monday nights and I remember LMAO about that one!

I live in an area where people dress up, so you really can't go to Kroger in your "grubbies" because you will always run into somebody you know.  I used to live really close to an Ingall's where the motto should've been "shoes and teeth are optional", so it was great when you were outside, or just a mess....you could run to Ingall's for milk and still be the best dressed person there!

Hello Everyone,

Just thought I would let you know that the Angel Food Ministries is the greatest. When you don't have the money to get the big things of food this helps me alot. All I have to do is get the basics and the food is good. It is worth every penny. I recommend this program if you have it in your area. Go for it, it's worth it!

Best homemade playdough recipe--or how I ever get to have an actual shower:

1 cup flour
1 cup water
1 tablespoon oil
1/2 cup salt
1 teaspoon cream of tartar
4 drops food coloring

stir in a saucepan over medium heat until it starts to harden
continue to stir once you take it off the heat
keep in the fridge

I don't know about you--but my kids can go through so much of this, plus they think I'm a superstar because I can make playdough!

Wow, this thread is awesome!  I wish we had an Aldi.  I think I'm going to try to find a bread maker.  I'm talking to my sis and she says you can make bread for 25 cents a loaf so I'm all for that.  I need to find a maker though.  I loved all y'alls ideas.  I'm doing the shop once a week thing but I keep running out of milk...if I buy two gallons I'm afraid one will go bad in the mean time.  Sigh.

Try looking for a bread maker at garage sales.

Thatpinkdebt - if 2 gallons of milk goes bad in a week your fridge needs work, Hon. I wish we could keep two gallons for a week - with 4 kids around we should have a dairy cow instead!
these tips on making the dollar stretch are great - i love the idea of menu planning and have tried it on occasion, but my kids eat ahead and then stuff is gone for the recipes. very annoying. smiley
No Aldi here,  but I think my mom found that Angel Food Ministries - or something quite similar.
We've gone to purchasing our beef by the half (half a cow that is) every 6 months - takes more freezer space, but saved us a ton of trips to town and money.

First thing my friend who is a trainer taught me about trying to eat healthy and save money at the grocery store is to only shop the perimeter of the store.  It seems like when I go up and down the aisles, especially when hungry, I end up with all kinds of junk that is pre-packaged processed snack food.  My 2 1/2 yr old daughter is a snacker too and that has opened up my eyes to my own bad habits...I'll do really good one week eating healthy and mainly buying meat, dairy and produce.  I'm a bit of a produce snob because I need it to last since I go through stages.  Nothing makes me more frustrated than to have something go bad a few days after you buy it...of course it took trial and error to find out how to buy produce!  We're bad about eating out...I'm 9 weeks pregnant and hate to cook anyway so since my energy level is way down from about 2 pm on, my hubby gets stuck picking something up if he doesn't want to cook!  He is so sweet to me!  Doing my first Secret Shop at a restaurant next week...can't wait!  A $70 meal for free, that's the way to eat out twice a month!  Thanks for the advice on farmer's markets...we moved to the "country" last January and haven't found any local growers yet but now will since you all have shared how much less it is... I guess you have to buy in season though for your area?

Sorry about the lengthy response!

Hey, speaking of "Texas" talk...has anyone else said "ya'll" or "fixin' to" in a business setting and been laughed at?  I learned that the hard way in a big business meeting when I was working in the corporate world...talk about education by fire!  Thanks for sharing all the funny "lingo" stories!  Had me LOL!
