I still haven't admitted to my husband just how bad it actually is...the debt that is.  I'm digging myself out of the hole, and hopefully soon I'll be able to tell him what I did.  I think I need to understand why first.  Its good to read the blogs/boards and know that I'm not alone and that there's quite a few of us coming out of the fog and starting over again.

I sent back my inventory that will be a big chunk, and I've been selling stuff on e-bay, you'd be suprised how those star consultant prizes sell!!!  Anyway, my goal is to be completely free of the debt by this time next year...It was a hard lesson, but its good to know that I'm not alone.

I'll be here for awhile, hopefully offering support to others as well as learning from others how to get out from underneath the debt sooner rather than later!

Sounds like you are taking all the right steps. And the important step is the one you've already identified, which is understanding the why.

As for hubby, sharing that "why" will be a good start. Once you have paid it down with the money from returning inventory and eBay sales, then what remains is the amount of debt you really have. You can share that amount with him.

And I would suggest, before you talk with you husband, coming up with a plan for how you are going to eliminate the entire debt in a year. Then, of course, stick with it. He will be impressed that even though you got into a mess you have the brains and maturity to get out of it.

I highly recommend Dave Ramsey as a source of information concerning debt.
Anyway, you are definitely not alone.
My husband does know our situation, though really I didn't want him to, because I felt so guilty about it all. But it's much better now, the air is clearing.
You're definitely doing the right thing by selling. I wish I would have returned product, but I think it wouldn't really be worth it now.
I am selling on ebay too-
can you believe it? I've sold golden goblets and bags I bought at seminar-  I bought this bag 5 years ago, have used it (it's a huge bag) and it was not expensive- I started the bidding at like $15 and that thing sold for $50! I am just amazed- but anything is worth a lot to the right collector, that's why ebay is great!

anyway, my plan is to take all that $$ and make some hefty payments on my debt-but you will have to have a plan. YOu have to know what you have to spend each month, and what you can use to eliminate debt. As you eliminate one card, take that $$ and put it towards payment on another, etc, and it will go faster and faster until it's gone.
Won't that be a great feeling?

We need to all share that on here- when we get our MK debts eliminated!!
good luck.

I Love Dave Ramsey!  My Husband and I have been to his seminars, and have worked his plan for a couple years...my husband was actually delivering pizzas on the weekend to really help out with the debt reduction when I got the great idea that I would just sell Mary Kay to get us out of debt...live and learn!  smiley
When my check comes this week I am going to talk to DH about the debt and show him my plans for eliminating it.  I have definitly felt guilty for getting us further in debt when all I really wanted was to get out of debt.  Another life lesson learned  smiley
Now I'm going to dig around and see what other Mary Kay treasures I have laying around that might be worth the big bucks on e-bay  smiley
Thanks for listening!

That's great- yes, lessons learned, right there with you.
As for treasures, search high and low- I had no idea how much MK "stuff" I had stashed away- mugs, cups, shirts, bags, anything!
If it's black and pink, or says MK, or was given away or sold by the company, man, it sells. You just wouldn't believe it.
I have been mailing 3-4 packages a day for the last 2 weeks, and I have more on there.

section 2, samples, etc- put those together in a big lot- presto.
I've sold facial in a bag supplies, acrylic boxes used for having a facialbox/drawing at a booth or at a store, just anything I bought or was given in my mk experience, I'm selling- and I have a lot. I was a director, so the company gives you all sorts of little bags, books and trinkets. Selling it all.
It is kind of fun too- to just get it all out of there.
I mean, if you've been to seminar, you know how MK women love to buy mK stuff- just look at the 100s of vendors- companies who make products for MK and other MLM companies- that is what they do, supply consultants w/ business gear-
anyway- good luck.

oh- one more thing- don't doubt anything you have that might sell on ebay- you will be amazed at what will sell. I also sold my ladder of success pin with about 10 little jewel stars on it. someone will look like they've been a star many many times- smiley funny, huh?

I think just around $25 or so, but I started the bidding low. AFter that, I realized that stuff just was selling and people really wanted this stuff-
I had this bag I bought at seminar, 5 years ago, this huge black bag w/ hot pink lining, MK sold it for $8 at seminar the first year I went, and the company never offered a bag that big after for sale or prize- I used to always have consultants asking me where I got it and how they could get one-
Anyway, I used the heck out of that thing, carried all my mirrors and display items for a class- it weighed at least 40 lbs all loaded down-

I took some pics of it, put a good description, explained that it was offered 5 years ago and was used, though in good condition, etc...
after all the other stuff that had sold, I thought I'd try to start the bidding around$18 or $20, so I did that...
the day the auction ended, I just couldn't believe it. That thing sold for $48 plus $8 shipping.
Somebody really wanted that bag.

Anyway- you just never know. I'm getting a kick out of it all- just seeing what will go and for what.
Just look around your house at all of the MK stuff you have and give it a try.
It's better than having a garage sale!

I think I will give Ebay a whirl as well.  I have sooooo much "stuff", and alot of director prizes, I expect I should get a fair price for those!

I can't believe how much stuff I have rustled up just looking around the house - emptying drawers in my former office...I'm such a stasher.  Last night my husband sat down in there with me and he didn't say much, but finally said "wow, how did I not know that all of this stuff was in here?"   It of course sent me into a long drawn out explanation regarding the "importance" of the PCP and all of the "training" materials for my team.  Gadzooks!  But, it is all photographed and ready to "fly off my shelves" via ebay..you know, "the eye buys"  The more the better - I'm burning up that loan! smiley

I quit MK back when ebay was just getting started... I ended up giving about 6 grocery bags full of supplies to my recruiter, and I've thrown away goodness knows how much other stuff over the years...cleaning house this week and whatever I still have is bound for ebay. Oh--by the way MK also sells quite well at garage sales--had one several years back and put out some stuff for the heck of it...people were practically begging me to go inside and get more. I had to wonder where these people were when I was actually a consultant, but anyhow...I finally went in and brought out half-used bottles of nail polish I'd used for nail care classes--they bought that too--I was completely dumbfounded. I wish I'd kept more stuff, though--my recruiter made enough money off of me without my giving all of that back to her! Oh well, she doesn't sell anymore either so maybe she saw the light too!

Yes I'm in credit card debt. All accumulated from inventory, section2 stuff/aids, career conference, seminar & hotel, restaurant meals w/ fellow mk unit members. I'm in around $7000 debt from 3 credit cards combined. Just paying minimum payments every month for several months already. The interest is quite high. I believe I've lost much money just from the interest itself. But I'm so happy that after I refund all my inventory I'll get half of the debt out of the way. But the rest of the half is still a big amount. It's pretty scarey for me. I don't know how exactly I'll get rid of the whole debt, but I just know I'll have to work very very hard to do it. I suppose I will sell stuff on ebay like the mk pins, mk place-mats & some non-mk stuff. I've already sold my beloved guitar to a friend just to ease a little off my debt. I'm so broke right now that I hardly have money for bus fare. LOL!  No income at all. sigh....! I've made no money all this time I've been in MK. I'm not even in a good emotional state to hunt/interview for a job right now. Luckily I have previous experience of selling several items on ebay last year. So I think ebay will be my saviour for the comming weeks.

Awaken, I know how you feel. Pay off your smallest card first, then you'll have money freed up to pay off the next one even faster (paying less interest in the long run) and it will snowball from there. That is the way to do it-
Yes, any mk stuff you have will sell on ebay! YOu just won't believe it! I have had people pay 30, 40, 50 dollars for old MK bags, star prizes, etc, it's unbelievable, really.
Really, things will look up, you've got to get yourself out of the funk, let this forum help you- I'm sure you ahve a lot to offer and a job will come around, just put yourself out there, you can get through this "yuck" time- you'll look back and be able to see what all you learned from this, (other than not joining MLM anymore:)

Good advice with the credit card debt.  Once you get your refund check maybe you can pay off 1 or 2 and then apply for an interest free transfer balance on another?  In any event the ebay sales are also a good suggestion.

After returning what I was able to I kept behind the original cleansers I had and those did remarkably well.  Also section 2 items and giveaways...my MK datebook cover, and display trays, pink pearls, bags, etc.    You'd be surprised how much those items can get.  Just chip away at the debt little by little.

Meanwhile, welcome! grouphug
