Hey ladies!!! I have finished chemo. Last Tuesday was round #8. The first round was a nice strong combination to kick it in the tail, the next 3 were also strong, but they had to be modified because the cancer is HER-2 positive, as well as ER/PR positive. Basically, hormones feed the cancer, and it has a nasty little extra protein on it that causes it to keep dividing and growing. My last 4 treatments were Taxotere/Herceptin, so much easier on me, although the diarrhea still hasn't let go of my stomach. I will continue on Herceptin every 3 weeks for the next year. I'm sure he will add Tamoxifen or something like it to my daily medicines. The good news - none of my doctors can feel the lumps any more. Also - I have some hair again! I have a surgery date - Monday August 4th at 10 am central time. I go in this Monday for pre-op labs, history & tests. I will have mastectomies on both sides, one side with significant lymph node removal. I will have reconstruction at the same time, chest wall muscle expansion for about 2-3 months, then radiation, then implant surgery. Then - I should be done!!! Thanks for all your prayers and kind thoughts. It's still a marathon, but I'm past the halfway point now! Love to you all, Janet (MKMW)

Wow, I don't think we've ever spoken but I read your post and LJ's right: It sounds like you are kicking its butt. You sound like a very strong woman and I hope to get to know a person like you better!

So glad for the update! You rock! You are still the most amazingly positive person I've met in a long time! I'm certain that your surgery will go well! Here's hoping for an uneventful post op course with minimal pain! (and good drugs ) You will be able to dangle your JP drains and gross out your friends and neighbours! I hope you are eating well and trying to keep up your strength How long until you get to the implant stage? (or was that the 2-3 months you were referring to?)

Janet, I was wondering about your progress against the cancer as I checked out your homeschooling site lately. I'm so glad to hear you're kicking it's butt!! YEAH! You're an amazing woman, and here's to complete remission in the not-so-distant future!

How long until you get to the implant stage? (or was that the 2-3 months you were referring to?)
I will have expansion (where they stick the needle in the little expander pouch under the chest wall muscle - Woo hoo - can't wait for that) every 2 weeks until I'm the correct "plumpness" and then radiation (probably 2 months), then implantation. Happy drugs. The nurse said my doctor believes in pain relief and doesn't believe in the "wait until you can't stand it anymore and then ask for some" mentality. So, I'll have whatever I need in the hospital, I already have Roxinol at home, and will come home with lots of Percocet and then Vicodin. Needless to say, I'll be enjoying better living through chemistry. Sassy - hope your leg is better. You've been on my mind!!! RTP - it's nice to have you in our little homeschooling clan!! Everyone - for all the love and prayers. I'm definitely kicking some cancer booty!! Hope to check in again soon! Love y'all! mkmw
