Do you ladies remember when I fell in November and hurt my shoulder?  Well, I'm still having problems with it.  I can't lift my arm over my head, I can't carry anything heavy in my left hand, I can't hang laundry up outside (which I love to do because it always smells so good when its dry), etc.  In any event, I went back to see the orthopedic doctor today and since nothing is torn (thank God) which would need to be fixed surgically, there is really nothing more he can do for me.  So he gave me an injection in the joint (which made me sob for about 15 minutes) and sent me on my way.  He thinks I've started to develop arthritis in the joint already, which is probably what is causing my present-day pain.

It looks like this is something I am going to have to put up with for the rest of my life.  I'm only 42 and I plan on living until I'm at least 102 so I've got to deal with this for a very long time.   giggle  Seriously, I would greatly appreciate any prayers you could send my way--for no more pain, more healing, and strength.

Thank you!   bighug  (that's a one-armed hug, mind you).   smiley

I'm sorry you are hurting.  Hugs and prayers that you feel better soon.
Have you searched on google for any info?  If it's your rotator cuff, you could search for stretches and try them.  HTH

Thank you guys soooo much!!   crying  You're wonderful.

Snoopy -- YES!  I would love to hear your story!

Ginger -- the physical therapist gave me some exercises to do.  I haven't been doing them lately though because they make my pain worse.  I guess I'll have to start over and start slow.

Countess --  Love you!!

Okay...  You asked for it!   *wave

There's this phenomenon in my church called "Church Ball."  I honestly don't know if other religions have organized sports--at least as well, bad as ours can be.

We're taught to be Christlike and to serve others but awful nastiness comes out in church ball--basketball especially.  The language, violence...  It's almost funny in a sad sort of way because the idea behind playing sports like this is one to draw closer to each other as brothers and sisters (not co-ed, though).   We can have tournaments set up like high school/college tournaments.  People can actually leave the church over games/tournaments won or lost or bad officiating by volunteers who don't know what they're doing and think they do or who play favorites...

It's not a pretty sight when the worst of a person's character comes out playing sports (think irate soccer/hockey parent only add to it a hundred times)...   :bite

Anyway...  This is where I've played my sports over the years.  LDS Church sponsored sports have been the only chance I've had over the years in playing. I was too chicken to try out for volleyball or basketball in junior high and high school (well, actually I tried out for basketball in 8th grade but didn't get past the first cut. I was, however, a manager that year...).

So, yeah.  Church sports, especially basketball tend to get a little...um, aggressive? overly competitive? Two years ago last month, I had what was supposed to be arthroscopic surgery on my shoulder. Neither x-rays or a CT exam showed anything was wrong but I knew that something was wrong--and had been for eight years. I'd done the physical therapy multiple times. My shoulder had gotten to the point where I couldn't lift my arm past my elbow.  Fortunately for me, the surgeon trusted my instincts with my body, even though he was a new surgeon (to me).

When he stuck the scope into my shoulder, he found three different problems. Not only did I have a torn rotator cuff and torn cartilage, but two separate pieces of bone had broken off my shoulder. So I have a pretty (ugly) scar on my right shoulder to match the one where my pacemaker was put in because he had to open me up to fix all the damage. Why? Church basketball. Eight years prior to my surgery, I had taken an...unnecessary?... elbow to my shoulder and was fouled while defending the basket during a regional basket ball tournament ten years ago. That's why I play volleyball now--not so dangerous.    giggle

The moral of the story--at least for me and my surgeon--is that you can't trust the tests!!!!!

Same thing happened with my knee scope (more damage than shown) this February as well!!!  Same surgeon, same results...

Oh yeah.  I've done those injections in my shoulder and in my ankle...   crying crying crying   tgther

I'm not sure my story can help you...  Just know that I totally understand your frustration and pain...

Prayers, prayers and more prayers for you, Kathy!   bighug

Snoopy - Glad everything worked out okay for you! It must be great to work with a doctor who respects the fact that you know your body!

Wow Snoopy....I had no idea that church basketball could be so dangerous!   giggle  But that is only a little giggle--not a full one because you were definitely hurt by that elbow!  Bone fragments?  OUCH!  It's funny you should say "don't trust test results" because that's exactly what I've been wondering.  I had back surgery about 6 years ago so I know pain and I know when something is not quite right.  The continuing pain in my shoulder and the inability to do certain things--gee, you'd think the test would've showed something more serious than an "irritation".  The pain I feel some days is much more than a simple irritation.

I can't believe you had to suffer for 8 years with your shoulder problems.  I'm so glad your doctor trusted you enough to operate and finally get you fixed.  And you have a pacemaker?  I didn't know you had heart problems too!   bighug

Velocity -- thank you!!

Kathy, how is your shoulder doing? Have you been able to do any of the exercises yet?

I've had you and your family in my prayers and hope that you're taking care of yourself so you can get stronger.  :bskt

Thank you, thank you, thank you!!  My shoulder feels a little bit stronger, but not very much.  The pain at the injection site took about 5 days to go away.  I tried to do some exercises two nights ago and got sharp stabbing pains in my joint so I stopped.  Then I was sitting in a chair yesterday and leaning on my left arm.  That was dumb because I got this jolt of pain which made me yell.  My shoulder doesn't bother me too much if I don't do anything with it.

I go back to see the quack  giggle next week and I'm sure he'll say again "there's nothing I can do for you."  If he says that, then I'm going to go back to my family physician to get a referral to another orthopedic doctor.  Pain is a symptom.  You don't just have pain when everything is okey dokey.  I'll keep you posted.

THANKS GIRLS!!!!   bighug

P.S.  Even though I'm not 100% healed, please keep your prayers coming.  I know my situation could be so much worse without them.

Update:

The orthopedic doctor released me from his treatment.  Even though my shoulder is not 100% healed, there is nothing more he can do for me.  I think that's a bunch of crapola, but what's a girl to do?   giggle  I was going to go for a second opinion, but my pain has lessened and even though I can't use it the way I used to, I'm better than I was 5 months ago.

Thank you for continuing prayers!  You are all angels in my book.   Love
