Spring has Sprung!

« on: December 18, 2007, 09:15:29 AM »

Please pray for my MIL. She was experiencing shortness of breath while vaccuming last Thursday, but it took us until Sunday night to convince her to go to the hospital. Turns out she's got fluid around her heart. She was admitted Sunday night and she's having a catheter (sp?) done as we speak. I'd appreciate your prayers for her results to come out well.

We're having to help her make some lifestyle changes (diet, exercise) and I know it's going to be a bit difficult at first (she's apparently been having "wonderful" snacks like potato chips with melted cheese on them and hamburgers at 11:00 p.m.) :doh It's difficult when you don't live with someone, but we're going to encourage and monitor her as we can. She says she wants to make a healthy change so she will still be around for her family; I pray that's her intention as well and that she can stick to it with our help! DH has a positive outlook but SIL (who's younger- early 20's) and was there when FIL died of a heart attack at the house is more worried/upset. We're trying to help her stay positive. She still lives with MIL (she's currently in grad school), so I know her help will be a key factor in the new healthy changes to be made.

I'm taking a basket of heart healthy snacks/fun stuff to pass the time for her up to the hospital today, so I hope that gets her off to a good start. Let me know if you have any suggestions for the basket. :shop: My dad already suggested low/no salt nuts and I'm putting apples in it as well. Any other ideas would be appreciated!

She has no blockages and there's little/no plaque. They can treat the plaque that's there with medication and they're estimating she'll be able to come home this evening! :yays:

I'm still planning to take her the basket, so all ideas are still welcome! :nice:

I'll keep her in my prayers.

Check the American Heart Association's website.  Maybe they have ideas for what to put in the basket as far as snacks.  They also have good cookbooks.
