I know everyone is dealing with a lot these days and I started not to make this request because I didn't want to add to anyone's sadness. Then, I remembered it's not about me.
My sister was diagnosed yesterday with ovarian cancer. Added to that she has an enlarged spleen and Hepatitis C. She has a mass about 10 cm that must be removed. There was some initial concern that, because of the HCV and her extremely low hemoglobin (800) that she wouldn't be able to have the surgery right away. Our hospital here (or at the least the Physicians) don't feel qualified to do the surgery, so we will be taking her to Albuquerque as soon as the arrangements have been made. This is so new, we don't know the stage of her cancer yet and there are still many questions to be answered.
So....please add her to your prayer list.
To make it even more.....poignant?, at the time she was receiving her devastating news, one floor up my newest great nephew was being welcomed into the world. Our hospital plays a lullaby over the entire hospital PA system when a new baby is born. Of course we knew the birth was imminent, so when they played the lullaby we knew it was for our baby. It gave her such a lift. Please also keep this new family in your thoughts.
I've been coming on here when I've been home for meals, shower, whatever for the last couple of days because this forum has helped me stay grounded. You all don't know what a blessing you are. Thank You!!!

Oh MPBB -- I'm so sorry to hear about your sister's news. I will definitely keep your sister and your entire family in my prayers. Congratulations on the birth of your new great nephew! I hope his birth will bring a boatload of smiles and blessings to your entire family. It's strange to send prayers and a congratulations in one post. But that's the way life works sometimes, isn't it? Sad news and happy news all at the same time. I'm glad his birth gave her a little bit of a boost.

Some good news. The Hepatitis C hasn't affected her liver yet, so that can be addressed after the surgery. It really is amazing as the HCV is the result of her wild youth....30 years ago. She's being released to go home today until her surgery is scheduled. Her daughter and I will take turns staying with her to make sure she takes it easy. Thank you all.

MPBB - I am so glad to hear you received good news about your sister!! I will definitely continue to pray for her and your new lil great nephew. PS: I think its so great that the hospital plays a lullaby when a baby is born - I would be crying all day if I worked there. New life is so beautiful it leaves me all vaklempt.

Thanks y'all for your prayers and support. We went Thursday for a consult on Friday morning. I am so impressed with the gyn/oncologist that will be treating her. Everyone in the hospital sang her praises. The consult wound up taking 8 hours yesterday. Talk about thorough. We go back on the 10th for a appointment with a hematologist/oncologist and the 11th will be a pre-op appointment with the gyn/onc. Surgery is tentatively scheduled for the 15th of May. She's holding up well and I tell her about all of you who are praying and sending good thoughts. It means a lot to her. I'll keep you posted.

I'm late seeing this. I am so sorry to hear about your sis's diagnosis but I am glad to see that she appears to be in good hands with her physicians. She is blessed to have such family support. I pray that all goes well for her.
