I'm new here.  In fact, I'm pretty new to Mary Kay.

I joined Mary Kay only a few short months ago (June, actually), and am already having second thoughts.  After finding this site when searching for information on how to return my product, I feel somewhat...used.  You see, I have incurred far too much debt, simply because I had cancer with no insurance a few years ago.  And despite knowing this, my director *still* convinced me that it was a good idea to purchase $1800 worth of inventory on credit because, with my MK business, it would be "so easy" to pay all of my debt off within a year. When I didn't qualify for a credit card, though, she offered to pay for it for me, and I would make payments of $150.00 in order to pay her back.

After not being able to pay for groceries because she deducted my payment from my account, I started rethinking this whole thing.  I finally found the number to call for the Repurchase Form, and made the call.  I didn't realize that 25 minutes after I made the call, my director would call me and ask me what *she* did to make me do something like that.  She never told me that if I returned my product, I wouldn't be able to be a consultant anymore.  And I feel guilty, because she basically bought my product for me.  I know I shouldn't feel guilty.  She actually does seem like a genuinely nice person who really believes in the company.  Now she's offering to buy back $1200 of my product, and I'm tempted to take her up on the offer.  I'd still have $600 in product to sell, and could take some time to actually see if this business is for me.  The catch is that she wants me to buy any product I need from her, since the product I bought is not what *she* would have bought for *her* business (even though she basically ordered it all *for* me).

But I don't know.  I honestly don't feel I am very motivated  to go out and "warm chatter" or put out a "fishbowl."  I am starting to think that maybe it's a bit naive to think that my family and friends would *love* the product as much as I do.  I want to get as much money back as possible in order to pay her back, but not if it means selling it to her with no intentions of being a consultant in the future.

And, if I do sell her my inventory, and I decide I *still* don't want to be a consultant for MK, then what?  She would be stuck with product she wouldn't have ordered for herself, and I'd still feel the need to return what inventory I had left.  I do not want to "betray" her.  But I also don't want to be taken advantage of.

What would you do?  Would you take her up on her offer and see if you could sell  any product a $600 inventory?  Or would you just send your inventory back and be done with it?

Any advice would be helpful!

Hmm, new in June with a Star order - right before Seminar. I would doubt she is as genuine as you think she is, she was trying to accomplish her goals for the Seminar year. Since you haven't been in that long, you might not know, but June happens to be the month when more consultants are recruited for someone else's goals. . .

Additionally, what your director did by paying for the inventory for you (even if it was a loan) is illegal and can get her terminated, it's in the director's agreement, and she knows it's illegal, she's just hoping you didn't tell the company how you got the prodcut so she doesn't get in trouble - that's probably another reason she'll take it from you rather than you returning it, she's afraid you might tattle on her. . .

All that being said, what would I do in your shoes? Get the H-E-double hockeysticks out! Consider yourself lucky you aren't in deeper!

If you love the product, buy it on eBay or forums like this (you can often get it less than wholesale and you don't have a minimum of $200 order!). Just my $.02, but I would pack it up and report your director for her wrongdoings - it's the only way the company will know (although they won't act) on the wrongs that directors are committing. Good luck!

Mia, it sound like you're experiencing a lot of stress.  I'm sure that's not what you thought you'd be getting when you signed on.  Let me ask you this.  How much product have you sold?   Does it look to you like your sales are going to be enough to support that $150.00 payment for the next 3-4 months if you keep the $600.00? Or is that payment going to have to come out of your personal income.

This is absolutely just my opinion, but, if you send this product back, you could possibly sign up again at a later date if you are still interested.  Especially if you do as Mlle WT suggests and tell MK Corp. what your director did.  No one gets into this thinking they are going to add incredible stress to their lives, but that does seem to be what happens a lot.  I know it did with me.

Keep checking back.  I know you're going to get some great advice from these ladies.  They're fabulous and much wiser about this sort of thing than I. hmmm

Thanks for the replies.  It really did help to make up my mind.  In fact, the whole site helped me "see the light."  I was really wondering if I was the only one that felt MK was a foolish, unrealistic "dream."

Anyway, thank you.  I have decided to return my inventory after all.  I just hope my boyfriend's mom and a coworker (the only two people who bought anything from me in the two short months I was involved in MK) will forgive me!  I feel guilty just thinking that they may have bought product out of pity or guilt and not because they actually wanted it.

Mia -- I'm late too...  But, I hope you are through with the guilt!!

You should be THRILLED you were educated so soon and only had 2 people purchase from you.  I just finished my big sale to my customers before I ship it all back, and even at 50% off, I was sick about the number of people who didn't want to buy anything else...  And these were people who had bought about 100 micro miracle sets these last 6 months!  Ughh...

So it seems LOTS of folks bought from me just because it was me -- nothing to do with Scary Kay!   Bubble Bubble

I offered to return everyone's money, but nobody took me up on it -- now I hope we are still friends and they will forgive my  Kaybot insanity!
