There are various reasons why you may choose to sell excess inventory to a liquidator. Most of these people are sellers on eBay and I, myself, used to be a successful one.
I saw a comment from a MKer who had sent some excess inventory to an inventory liquidator (shall remain nameless). Problem is that she sent her inventory to them without getting payment for it. The liquidator was going to send her a money order...sometime.
Please don't do this! NOT a good idea. Borderline dumb.
How do you know that they will pay you a dime once they get it? They could say that what you sent them is old or doesn't meet their standards and refuse payment.
I know this particular liquidator. They are an eBay seller and also have a separate pro store site. Another eBayer I have close ties and business relationship with (have done several transactions with involving MK products) has had a transaction with them that did not turn out well. They also never responded to her problem.
Bottom line: watch out. There are only a few people on eBay that I would recommend. But what really ticked me off about this whole operation is that they were accepting people's items without paying them anything!
Also, they are being endorsed on "another board" so watch out. I don't think they know *#%! about them.

Oh crap - if the ladies on the Pinking Shears board are being told to send their inventory to these people, they might be screwed. Nice. Too bad people don't bother to check these things out before throwing it out there with some kind of "authority".

It's just way too risky to send anyone your inventory when you don't have payment.
The correct way to do it is to negotiate between yourselves, settle on a price and then the liquidator does payment by PayPal.
And guess what?
With PayPal, at least you have the chance to dispute if something should go wrong.
But if someone tells you to send them your inventory and they'll send you a money order, you have NO REAL RECOURSE should they receive your stuff and decide not to pay you. It wouldn't be easy getting your stuff back or your money.
These people should be used to receiving payment via PayPal since they also operate an eBay store. Shouldn't be a biggie.
Just watch out. I would NEVER take someone's word that they were sending money. Get payment first before you mail and then send them delivery confirmation numbers so that you can show them that you mailed. You can also look into escrow companies that handle such things to ensure that both parties make good on their end.
I NEVER had a case where I paid a consultant and did not receive merchandise.

can anyone recommend a legitimate site? you can pm me, if we dont' want to make it public for some reason ??? I am selling all sorts of things on ebay, anything mary Kay related, but I'm not having so much luck w/ product--I hate to list everything individually because I just have so much, so I've tried listing things in groupings, but I'm just ready to get rid of it all- I do have a list on this board, if anyone hasn't read it yet:) I'm not even using mk myself, except for embrace happiness, and like 2 other things--- thank you!!

Oh crap. Well hopefully now that there are more varied places to get information on the internet rather than just MKSurvivors, people will see this and beware. Thankfully most of the people who joined MKS also read other blogs and boards, so maybe the damage will be minimal. :

RECOMMENDED MARY KAY LIQUIDATORhttp://stores.ebay.com/Pretty-In-Pink-Cosmetic-StoreContact her and let her know I sent you. She's a good person. I can't guarantee that she will need inventory, but she's been on eBay forever, has a good reputation, and has a link to our site on her about page. She's of our same mind.

I finally sold one of my dir. suits, and my dir. ring...I am really purging this stuff out of my life. Someone even bought the blue shoes that went w/ my blue suit from a couple years ago in the pink Mary Kay shoe box...but, man, used shoes??? I'm amazed at what people want- if it says MK or was a prize or something, they want it.
I am still working on selling my other suits, but most other things are gone- all bags, trinkets, etc---sigh. what a good feeling! I have even sold old pins- pins that were prizes, etc, things that I never wore even ( I wasn't one to plaster my shoulder with pins)-- anyway- I'd still like to know where I could inquire into selling my inventory if anyone knows a legitimate site???

I'm keeping my tweed one, I really do think it s a nice suit, and it doesn't look like a uniform---but the blue one, the pink/black one, and a plum one I have on there- I got like $40 for the blue one. So, considering I paid like $300 for it, no that's not a good deal- but, considering it was sitting in my closet for the past 2 years, I guess $40 is better than just having it sit there, or than throwing it away- I looked, and there aren't any other ones on there, at least not any newer ones like that- I even sold the blue shoes that went w/ the blue suit for $15---crazy, eh??? I figure someone really just wanted that pink mary kay shoe box--- I also sold my blue huge directors class ring- man, that thing was ugly no matter how I tried to imagine I liked it- it just looks like a guys classring--- oh well, someone else has it now!

I did. Sold the ring, a couple of suits, many many pins and MK jewelry, and yes, the used blue shoes in the original Mary Kay box (I think, or hope, that is what they were really after, who knows. ew is right) I sold everything I could; like I said, I even sold my ladder of success pins and all the stones that go on it. geesh.
