I am toying with the idea of doing makeup for weddings and special occasions- just as a parttime for $$$ thing.  I haeva lady who runs the only bridal shop in town who wants me to be "her person"- I in NO way want this connected to me selling anything but my time.  Does anyone have advice on what to buy for use on the brides?  What I should have in my bag of tricks?  All my experience is from my MK business, but I really did learn a lot- that was my fav. part of the business.  Help! :pplease:
Thanks! :pmkn:

Have you had training as a makeup artist?  Not MK training, but real cosmetology type training.    Check the laws in your state.  I think in some areas you have to have training and hold a valid certification and license.

Good luck.

I worked as a make-up artist at Glamour Shots. They hired me b/c of my portforlio with MK (the before and after shots) because I always did their make-up myself, which you aren't suposed to do, but I wanted them to look good! Anyway, that lead to me doing make-up for a couple of weddings, and several proms. Mostly people from GS that asked for my number for future events. I am actually doing my BF's make-up this weekend for her wedding. But I never did it as a business, just as "fun" and made some cash on she side, you know? I didn't have a price, I took "donations" and got about 150-200 for weddings (seriously, that's what they gave me) and 50ish for proms. I saw it as a way to build my portforlio. I used mostly MK, since I was selling it at the time, and I wouldn't have minded if they wanted to buy what I used on them. But if you are trying to go pro, the best line for that is MAC. They have a lot of pro products. The foundations are hard, because some people really can't handle MAC base (like me) but it looks great on film. The main thing is finding products that YOU like to work with, like Mascara's that will stay where you put them, and not clump, you know? Even if you have 10 things from 10 different brands.

And Ginger is right. If you are going to make it a business, check into the legal. I just had fun and took the $ they gave me smiley

Can you ask at a local salon where they get their supplies?  You can probably get all of your disposable supplies at a Sally's Beauty Supply or something, but I don't remember their makeup being anything other than the cheapy stuff.  There may be a wholesale supply source, but it's true that you might need a beauty license to purchase.

Thanks for the info SSW!  Sounds like what I'm thinkin'- just for some extra $$$- & I'll do some freebies in the begining to get going.  I like the donation idea.  I don't have to be licensed or certified in CA.  I'll let you all know what I find out!  I still have a lot of the applicator type items from MK, as well as all my samples, etc.  I may use the MK foundation at first because I have it all- but I am SO loving the mineral makeup eyeshadows & mineral powder foundations.  We'll see...... gobble2

One thing to keep in mind with Mineral Make-up is that it reflects light, which is great if you want to look younger, but terrible for pictures! Be careful with weddings or proms, because you don't want them to look "ghostly" because the make-up doesn't handle the light right.
