When people aren't doing things the 'right' way, everyone is a victim except the person collecting money on top. New consultants are led into debt, and those doing things the 'right way' suffer as well. Those trying to do it the 'right way' have to battle public image tainted by those doing it the wrong way... plus they have customers stolen, and real potential workers. The competition is unfair when you put someone trying to do things right and someone trying to do things wrong. There shouldn't be any competition among consultants, but there is. It's just a reality.
I personally belive that any company should be responsible, and be held responsible, by and for consultants/agents who are not doing it the 'right' way.
This could never happen, because of the fundamental set up of the company. No MLM is going to take responsibility for the poor actions of an 'independent contractor'... because that would create expense on the part of the company. There would be a burden of responsibility on their part to actually train their consultants, and hold them accountable for their actions. This is exactly why they ARE independent contractors, so that the company doesn't HAVE to be responsible for their individual actions.
Therefore, 'direct selling' companies could not exist without those doing it 'the wrong way...' because the only way to get rid of them, or keep them in check, would mess up the 'system.' It would cost too much to have an official system of enforcing integrity among consultants.
