I'm still stuck on this idea of passing things on. And I think PC's topic regarding dollar stretching has got me on this again.

So I was thinking...

What if we started "chains"?

What I'm thinking about is something like this:

Person A has, say, a piece of jewelry or two that they no longer want.

They post a chain post on jewelry. Anyone else who has a piece of jewelry that they want to trade chimes in on the post.

Person A tucks their item (or two) into a buble envelope on its way to Person B.

Person B looks at the item (or two) that Person A sent, picks one, replaces the one they chose with the one they want to trade, and mails the package on to Person C.

and on and on until the package comes back to Person B with two different items than they started out with. (Think the two of something would work better than one).

Is this completely stupid?

I keep thinking there is something there that would be fun, but maybe not.

Maybe I just need  cocktail

Later chicas!

this reminds me of the Canadian dude who traded a paperclip for a house. It took him 14 trades to get from a paperclip (he listed it on Craig's List I think) to a house. You can read the story on his blog:

Yes. I know all about it.

Not trying to copy that. And you wouldn't be trading for something else.

I've seen that on the splitcoaststampers forum, they call it pay it forward I think.  www.splitcoaststampers.com
It's a website about rubber stamping, mostly stampin up stuff, but lots of cool techniques, tutorials, etc.

You know, this would be fun as just a "surprise" chain.

Looks like this idea caught fire lately, even though I proposed it over a year ago. Cool!

I think this could be fun, helpful.

Want to brainstorm it further?

We need to make sure that no names were attached to addresses. I envision having threads, perhaps, for certain types of items, so that you could do some with books, jewelry, etc.

Throw out some more ideas and lets see if there's enough interest and practical ways to make it work.

LOVE this idea!!!!  I have tons of items (most still new) that I'm sure someone else would love to have!  Seperate threads for specific items would be great.

Separate threads for each round of items. Then those interested in participating can post in that thread.

Maybe then, the person that started the thread can PM the first person that replies to the thread to get her address. Then, once the second person is ready to send it out, they PM the next person in the thread for their address.

Opinions?

Sort of like Freecycle! You post to the board.. and get a daily email.. check it and reply to items you want. Not allowed to charge for anything. I have never found anything I wanted.. but I have an older boat I am going to post in the spring.. free.. take the thing away!
