 crying

My 3 month old son Jake has just been diagnosed with his first ear infection and I am going crazy because I can't make it better right away.  I know the antibiotics are working and it is going to take a day or two to really kick in, but I feel terrible.  I am a new mother and when ever he cries it makes me want to cry cause I can't make it better.

Is this normal or am I going nuts? crying

You're normal.  bighug

I'd put mine on the boob to help...  If you're nursing, you could try that.

Did your Doctor say if you could give Tylenol or Motrin? Controlling the pain before the antibotics start working always helps! Makes it easier for my kids!

Good Luck!

Your feelings are very normal (welcome to motherhood) and babies having a few ear infections is totally normal too!!  Yes, Tylenol works wonders and you both should snuggle up and take a nap!!

In the Pink -
It's been said that having children is like letting your heart walk around outside your body.  True!  The benefit of having a sick baby is they tend to want lots and lots of snuggles.  It'll be over soon!

Thank you all  bighug

We've been curled up on the couch together and he seems to be feeling better. The Tylenol really helped. Love

a warm compress will help too....usually a hot wash cloth (not too hot of course) just in front of the ear will help relieve some of the pressure....

and yeah...all us mommys have a hard time when our babies are sick...doesn't get any easier as they get older either

I would rather be sick myself than for either of my kids to be sick.  It's such torture watching them be miserable.  Especially if you can't fix it immediately.  Just give him lots of love kisses and hugs
Hope he feels better soon!

I know this isn't a traditional approach but I speak from recent experience. My son was not well from birth to about 6 months old. No one could give me a real answer they just gave me antibiotics and they weren't working. Finally I did some research and found that pediatric chiropractics could be the answer. There are chiropractors that specialize in prenatal and infant adjustments. My son was almost 10 lbs when he was born and after a very long labor his upper cervical spine had been severely compressed putting pressure on the nerves in that area. This caused vomiting and other health concerns that was diagnosed and treated as GERD. I wasn't satisfied with medicating my son until he "grew out of it". Luckily after my findings and 2 adjustments he never vomited again-ever! We've continued monthly visits to maintain health. Even changing diapers and little tumbles can throw a little spine out of whack. He's never had an ear infection -he's never been sick! Of course there are quacks out there and you need to really research qualified individuals. I'm just disappointed that my general practitioner never made the suggestion and that I took so long to find an answer. Non traditional or not- it has worked and chiropractic practice is not the kind of 'witch medicine' many believe it is.
Hope this helps some moms out there!
PS- It's great for prenatal too! I'm 7 months along and feel better than I ever did in my 1st pregnancy without chiropractic care!

AMEN!!! to chiropractic care...

I love my chiro.  (If you watch the Jazz/Rockets game this evening you might spy him behind the Jazz bench.)

I couldn't believe how well I felt after my very first visit.  I could turn my neck and look over my shoulder for the first time in YEARS...

Did I mention that I love my chiro?

Jake is doing great now. The antibiotics kicked in and he is his happy playful self again.   :bounce2

We have a check up with his pediatrician tomorrow just to make sure.  I'm so relieved ...

Thank you all so much  bighug

Great news InThePink, thanks for the update!!  Jake... I really like that name!!
My poor little one has a rash that starts under his arms and it is spread up to his chin... I am debating a doc visit!!  It is not spreading any more and I gave benedral (sp?)... and that might mean nap time... woohooo!!

Not-Tickled... yeah, I wonder about those general pediatrics also!!  It's like all they are good for is shots, weight & height charting... he he he  My daughter was 2 almost 3 and still drooling... well, her doctor freaked out!!  Wanted us to see a neurologist... my instinct, I tried an ENT first.... her tonsils were so large that they touched... well, DUH doc  :doh... she just can not shallow!!  Soon after, she had her tonsils and adenoids removed and first set of ear tubes!!  She has been doing very well ever since!!  Glad you found some relief... my uncle opted to use a chiropractor instead of surgery and is doing very well!!

Great news about Jake.
monicag225- sorry about that rash. Does it itch? If so my mom taught me that a baking soda/water paste really helps! good luck!

I second the baking soda paste remedy. It's really worked for my kids when they get fire ant bites!
