I notice that as of late we've got a few members that are expecting bambino's...so I thought it might be fun to compose a list of old wives tales surrounding pregnancy, labour and delivery etc... I'll start... Myth: If you take Castor oil (not the motor car oil) you will go into labour... Truth: You will have "the runs" like crazy, it tastes terrible and I took two whole bottles with my last baby with no labour...just diarrhea

"If you count the notches on the baby's umbilical cord. That will tell you how many children are going to have" So four notches means four kiddies for you. Yeah MIL insisted this was true. Only thing is that umbilical cords don't have notches. They're smooth.

Omg Beeswatter, that is so funny. I have never heard that one. Ok, trying to remember one. THE MYTH: The most annoying one to me is that if you carry high, then you are having a girl and if you carry low, you are having a boy. THE TRUTH: Your body and your uterus will decide how you carry your babies. I carried both my son and my daughter the exact same way. Way up high. I carry high enough that I can be 5 months pregnant and still wear regular jeans even though I look like I swallowed a basketball.

I love this tropic.. Why?? Obviously, I am expecting my second child. pinkponies: so many people have already told me that i am carrying a boy because of the shape of my belly One myth that I heard recently: if you get dark spots on your face or neck it's a boy....who knows...

Okay girls I've just heard a whopper of a myth....
Myth...if you put drano in the toilet and then pee on it; if it turns pink it's a girl, blue it's boy...
Truth...you stand a very good chance of burning your a$$...and it won't turn colour!

actually -I've heard of the drano test before! (Not pouring it in the toilet though) I read online that it was pretty accurate. So that's probably a mth. LOL We've got a lot of preggo ladies here (nopinkhugs and Used2bpink are both probably in the hospital as I type this!!) and some of us with new babies..... My favorite myth: If you raise your arms over your head, the umbilical cord will get wrapped around the baby's neck

How about if you have heartburn that means the baby has a full head of hair.

I forgot about that one! That is so not true...I had horrible heart burn will all three and none of them had any real hair to speak of until they were at least 1 1/2years old...my daughter didn't have any hair until she was three! Good one Countess! Thanks for the memories! Here's one for conceiving babies...(I think there is some truth to this one) If you have sex two days before you ovulate you stand a higher chance of conceiving a girl and if you have sex the day after you ovulate you stand a higher chance of having a boy. The reason? They say that girl swimmers are slower but live longer and boy swimmers are fast but die off quicker. So by that theory boys have a shorter window for being conceived and it should technically be easier to conceive a girl? Not true in our house we have one girl and two boys(guess my timing was good )

How about you crave sweets with girls and salty with boys? I did crave sweets with my girl, but also cheeseburgers. With my boy, I craved cole slaw and eggs.

LOL I craved cheeseburgers with all my kids. I think I've got protein issues or something. How about morning sickness? If you throw up a lot, it's a girl, if you're not sick, it's a boy...? In my case it was true, but it probably isn't for others....

I have 1 girl and 2 boys too, Sassy! How about this: my grandmother told me when I was 2 weeks overdue w/ my last one that I should drink castor oil and he would slide right out. I have since asked midwives and doulas what would have really happened and they said the severe cramping from the diarreah it would have given me would have induced labor (eeeewwww).

The morning sickness was the other way for me. With both my girls I only had 1 or 2 spells of MS. Then was fine. Now with my son, I was sick for a month and also so wiped out I couldn't open my eyes in the morning!
I craved chips & salsa through all my pregnancies. I also craved hot fudge sundaes. But that was at the end. Thats when you knew labor was a few days away.
Heres somethin about drano:
What Your Urine Says
This next test to determine a baby's sex may not be for everyone, although it is very simple. Just take a sample of your urine and mix it with Drano. Depending on the color change of your urine, you will have a boy or a girl. Unfortunately, there is no consensus on what color equals which sex. So, if you do decided to try this and your urine turns bluish yellow, brownish, brown, black or blue you will be having a boy. If your urine looks more greenish brown, green, blue or doesn't change at all, then you're having a girl. But be warned: if you decide to do this test, there could be some pretty harsh fumes produced - not to mention the possibility of an explosion!.
To get labor started I was told to walk, have sex, drink tea, get foot rubs. Nothing worked! The only one that did anything at all was walking, it got me dialated to 4 before labor began eachtime.

I craved cheeseburgers too! I also thought it was a protein issue. I craved Cheeseburgers and Skittles with my oldest girl. With my 2nd girl I craved tacos. Never had a bout of Morning Sickness with either pregnancy
