We are thrilled to be pregnant again with another little boy! However our son is not too sure about the whole thing. I'm a stay at home mom and he's had me to himself for almost 2 years now. Our gym has a day care but that's really been his only interaction with other children. Since I've been on bedrest he doesn't even get there anymore. Most of our friends don't have children or they are way older than he is.
Any suggestions on how to prepare him and cut the apron strings a bit before the new bundle arrives?

PS- I'll also take any advice on potty training a little boy!

My advice is for the potty training:  anything you do before the baby comes will all be for naught after.  They generally regress with the stresses of change and :holycow is that a big change.  If you can, teach him to go outside.  Little boys love to pee on a tree or a tire, just make sure you tell him he can only do it with your permission.  Of course, if you live in town, this may not work.

He he he... I am potty training my 2 1/2 year old boy and he took his first pee in the bushes yesterday (I'm sure it will not be his last!!)  Of course, he loved it!!  I had to laugh the whole time, too cute!!  For boys, the whole world in a urinal!! 

I do not think you can totally prepare your toddler.. just be sure to give him extra attention after the baby comes!!

I agree with Monicag225, you can't totally prepare him for the new baby.  My son was about 3 1/2 when my dd was born, and he was fine with it (he did try to get her out of the bassinet a couple of times, to help)  He wanted someone to play with so I think he was ok with it all.  This time..... he just didn't want another sister!

The potty training, I would try to get it done before the new baby, but if you are on bed rest I don't know how you will do that!  We did rewards, Hot Wheels, for pp at first then once he got that down we told him he only got a car if he pooped in the potty.    It worked, he was sooo much easier to potty train than my dd!  It depends on where your son is at, he might just do it!  Be patient!  Good luck with everything!

My suggestion is to just talk to him about how he will be a BIG brother and he will be able to be such a BIG helper to mommy when the baby comes.  If you focus on the good things that will happen for him, then he will notice those things too. 

My daughter was only 15months old when I had my son so she was too young to prepare her before his arrival but she still wanted to help with the baby as much as her little self could.  She was the first to get his pacifier when he cried and tried to help by getting diapers for me too.

One thing we did do was at the hospital, we got her a present to give to her when she met him.  As if it was a present from him.  Other friends and family brought her things too up to the hospital so it was a good time for her.

Opps, little type-o... For boys, the whole world IS a urinal not IN a urinal.. giggle

When new baby and I were still in the hospital, my hubby took my daughter (she was 3) to the gift shop and got her a "Big Sister" t-shirt and she picked out a present for her baby brother!!  But, after the excitement was all over... it was an adjustment period for her!!!

OMG, I should not be giving out potty training advise, I need help myself, I have no clue what I am doing!!!  The peeing is going pretty... well... the poop is a disaster... I just finished cleaning poop out of carpet   Sick Sick Sick... I thought I was going to vomit and/or pass out... I honestly felt very weak, I just grabbed an easter treat and now I  feel a little better...  Now I need:
 Margarita      *cocktail      Cheers      bubbly      drunks

The pooping was a problem with my dd!  I don't know if there is any advice for that, I know it is so aggravating.  She would just be to lazy to go to the toilet and would poop where ever, then not tell anyone!  YUCK!  She was 3 in Sept. and didn't stop pooping in her pants until about Feb.!!!!!  Just be patient he will get it!  I so feel your pain and upset stomach!   bighug
