THE BIRTH ORDER OF CHILDREN

Your Clothes:

1st baby: You begin wearing maternity clothes as soon as your OB/GYN
confirms your pregnancy.

2nd baby: You wear your regular clothes for as long as possible.

3rd baby: Your maternity clothes ARE your regular clothes.
___________________________________________________
Preparing for the Birth:

1st baby: You practice your breathing religiously.

2nd baby: You don't bother because you remember that last time,
breathing didn't do a thing.

3rd baby: You ask for an epidural in your eighth month.
___________________________________________________
The Layette

1st baby: You pre-wash newborn's clothes, color-coordinate them, and
fold them neatly in the baby's little bureau.

2nd baby: You check to make sure that the clothes are clean and
discard only the ones with the darkest stains.

3rd baby: Boys can wear pink, can't they?
____________________________________________________
Worries:

1st baby: At the first sign of distress--a whimper, a frown--you pick
up the baby.

2nd baby: You pick the baby up when her wails threaten to wake your
firstborn.

3rd baby: You teach your three-year-old how to rewind the mechanical
swing.
____________________________________________________
Pacifier:

1st baby: If the pacifier falls on the floor, you put it away until
you can go home and wash and boil it.

2nd baby: When the pacifier falls on the floor, you squirt it off with
some juice from the baby's bottle.

3rd baby: You wipe it off on your shirt and pop it back in.
____________________________________________________
Diapering:

1st baby: You change your baby's diapers every hour, whether they need
it or not.

2nd baby: You change their diaper every two to three hours, if needed.

3rd baby: You try to change their diaper before others start to
complain about the smell or you see it sagging to their knees.
____________________________________________________
Activities:

1st baby: You take your infant to Baby Gymnastics, Baby Swing, and
Baby Story Hour.

2nd baby: You take your infant to Baby Gymnastics.

3rd baby: You take your infant to the supermarket and the dry cleaner.
____________________________________________________
Going Out:

1st baby: The first time you leave your baby with a sitter, you call
home five times.

2nd baby: Just before you walk out the door, you remember to leave a
number where you can be reached.

3rd baby: You leave instructions for the sitter to call only if she
sees blood.
____________________________________________________
At Home:

1st baby: You spend a good bit of every day just gazing at the baby.

2nd baby: You spend a bit of everyday watching to be sure your older
child isn't squeezing, poking, or hitting the baby.

3rd baby: You spend a little bit of every day hiding from the
children.
____________________________________________________
Swallowing Coins (a favorite):

1st child: When first child swallows a coin, you rush the child to the
hospital and demand x-rays.

2nd child: When second child swallows a coin, you carefully watch for
the coin to pass.

3rd child: When third child swallows a coin you deduct it from his
allowance!

or everyone who KNOWS someone who has had children . .

Loved the pacifier one!  I could add the same about sterilizing bottles!  (Do modern mothers even do that anymore or do they even sell bottle sterilizers???)

I think by the time the third one came along, I either rinsed the bottles with hot water or ran them through the dishwasher.  I guess it's OK; so far he has lived to be 21.  I renew his license to live every year ~~~ if he's worthy. giggle

Wow, all this is so true its scary. How many of us laugh at first time moms? With my second I think he is healthier due to early germ exposure!

With three boys, I can agree with just about everthing there...........except that with my first two only being 12 months and 21 days apart, the first and second child experiences kinda ran together for me.

I learned early on that I could "sterlilize" those bottles in the diswasher, and after the first couple of months if the paci fell on the floor (I know some of you other moms have done this too so don't "ewwww" me, LOL) I just picked it up stuck it in my mouth to remove the dust or dirt and gave it back.  and I think I begain hiding from my children as soon as the oldest two were both walking.

This is so funny--love the coin thing, never had to deal with coins--only pellets in noses and ears.

Done, I did the same pacifier thing with my 2nd!  (I might have done it a few times with my first)  Its amazing how funny you can be with your first born.  My 2nd was eating table food and drinking sweet tea by the time she was old enough to start baby food! (She wouldn' eat babyfood)  I wouldn't let my first eat any table food until he was almost 1.  Live and learn!

rofl rofl rofl rofl  This is too true!  And I'm sure I did the same thing with the paci Done only it started with the first one!  My best friend is expecting her first in a few weeks and I think it's hilarious what she's doing with the whole sterilizing, special laundry detergent, etc.  I went with her to register for her shower and although my youngest is only 2 1/2, I completely forgot how many gadgets those infants use.  Not too mention all the things that you buy your first go around that are so not necessary and don't even end up using!

One of the funniest things that has happened was when my 2nd was an infant.  I was breastfeeding, but since she refused to take the breast, I had to pump and give it to her in a bottle.  We went to the state fair with the kids and my mom, and I had packed several bottles with the flat top lids (the ones you put the nipple in later).  She was still napping, but I knew she was going to wake soon, so I wanted to prepare her a bottle.  It was then I realized that I didn't pack any nipples!!!  crying  We had just paid a small fortune between parking and admission to get there and I have this ticking time bomb on my hands!!!  I figured we'd just have to leave but my mom being the type that just doesn't get embarrassed starting asking every lady with a stroller if they had an extra nipple!!!  giggle rofl giggle rofl  It was priceless to see some of their reactions and responses!  They probably thought they were on candid camera!  My mom even began offering money and finally one kind soul gave us an extra bottle nipple!  Talk about germs but desperation!!!
