For those of you who celebrate Xmas and put up a tree, which do you prefer and have most often? I'm a real tree person myself but sometimes wish for fake so I could put it up as early as I wanted and not worry about watering.

Real! I live in Christmas tree country!!!!! I too have considered the fake tree thing UYC, because even here they sometimes charge absurd amounts for trees and you can't guarantee when they were cut!

I'm a real tree person, but we've done fake the last 2 years (DH grew up with faux, I grew up with fresh!) I already told him we're getting a real tree next year ; I miss the smell (and the tree scented plug-ins aren't quite the same!)

I love the smell and feel of real but I'm too paranoid about it catching fire so I have a prelit artificial one.

Sassy, that is us too!! Honey always had fake, we always had real... My Grandparents lived in Mississippi when I was growing up, and they had about 2000 acres... My Grandfather cut his own every year -- usually waaaaay too tall... And it was always interesting to see what kind of critters hiding up in the tree would end up in their house! Now I do the fake, but get a real wreath to put on the inside of the front door so I can have the wonderful smell!

That's a smart way to do it, TUP! I've got a candle this year from Bath & Body Works/White Barn Candle Co. called "Tree". It smells a lot like the real deal (thsy probably used some oil from pine needles in the fragrance for it.)

We've done both kinds in our house...the hubby likes real trees, but I hate dealing with watering and the falling needles, so we've got a fake one for now. Plus, we live in TX, so real trees are very expensive here, especially since you can't put them up too early!

I am in Texas too. We brought a 4 ft tree with stand that holds a gallon of water and doesn't tip. Got it at Kroger for a total of $16.99. We would have paid that for the stand usually. The tree was full and is still looking good. We put it up 12/7.

I have to admit I have a "Charlie Brown" looking fake tree! BUT, it does come with A LOT of History....it was the tree my parents used for my entire childhood (a long time ago). They also bought it when they were first married when they didn't have much money for extras so it was never "top of the line". It is the kind of tree that you have to put TONS of lights on to make it look good (5 strands this year) and every year I swear I won't use it again, but it somehow manages to make it's way back into my living room. Can't seem to part with it. :-)

Our tree is fake...I've had it forever much like dkeys4, it looks a lot like a Charlie Brown tree. We had both a real tree and a fake one every year growing up. I'm a bit of a tree hugger and I hate the idea of cutting a tree down just to decorate for a few weeks... And I know that the artificial ones create a bad environmental karma of their own during their making! So since I already have a fakie...that's what we do. I love your wreath idea TUP! I may use that next year! If we didn't have a fakie, I would try to find a tree I could plant after Christmas...that would be cool!

Sassy, I come from Christmas tree land and we just look at it like cutting a flower, they are grown specifically for cutting. I like the idea of planting a live one if you have land! Way cool!
