Kids and renovations are my life!

« on: October 14, 2007, 09:08:33 AM »

Okay I thought it might be fun to get your opinions....my husbands giving me a bit of a hard time for cleaning behind the stove (which is staying) as we get prepared to move. How much would you or have you done.

Sassy, unless it is in the sales agreement to detail your home, I would only surface clean! The house you are moving to will most likely be only "broom" cleaned. I have purchased 2 houses and both were just "broom" cleaned. allthough, it is a good idea to pull out appliances to see if you have left anything important behind!!!!!!

SO STOP CLEANING SASSY!!!!!

I know I should but I just can't  :chill:....we are still staying in the same town and I will still be in contact with my current neighbours. I would rather hear how clean the house was when I left than what pigs we were!
:laugh3: :laugh3: :laugh3:

You are right about the house we are moving to as well. The lady that's moving out told me that she avoids cleaning and is hiring a cleaning lady.....which translates to..."You've got a ton of cleaning to do"! :muahaha:

BTW all I found behind the stove was dirt and grime! :fly:

LOL Sassy! BUT, having worked as a ceaning lady, you will still probably hear that the house wasn't clean!!!!!! Meaning that some people will find anything to complain about, so you may as well re-paint, re-carpet etc.!!!!!! Don't worry so much!!!!  :chill:  :corn:

I would say stop cleaning, but if you are staying in the same area, it would be worth a quick cleaning. We bought our house from a lady a little on the crazy side and we later talked to someone who bought her NEXT house. Huh? I think she moved when there were too many lightbulbs to change!!

Each time I've moved in the past decade I haven't had to clean.  My sweet SiL cleaned the first house because I was pregnant (little did we know she was too).  My hubby's students cleaned the second one.

Oh, wait.  I cleaned the apartment.  That was easy, though.  We were only there six months.

I voted for surface cleaning only.  And WWIT is right -- no matter how much cleaning you do, it probably will never be enough for the new people!!

Stop cleaning Sassy!  People always complaint, even if you leave the house spotless.  Take a     :chill: .  You remind me of my mother.  She cleans in very detail the kitchen, bathroom, all around the house every single day.   :doh

When we bought our place, I would have re-cleaned whether it looked & smelled spotless or not, just to rinse off any possible chemical residue left by previously used harsh cleaners.  If there had only been wads of dust bunnies and grease under the stove, that would have been simple enough to clean, and understandalbe.  BUT... there were jellybeans under there that had burned into the linoleum!  They had actually conjealed w/ it and I just had to cut them off even w/ the floor, no amount of elbow grease was going to undo it.  And the pile of cat food/dust&dirt that appeared to have been swept into the laundry closet rather than into a dustpan was kind of inconsiderate.  There was candle wax melted into the carpet and when we looked at the house, the prev. owners put a small decor. table there and I thought that was an odd place for it!  They were covering that up.  I would have rather had them just say, oops we spilled candle wax over here and don't have time to mess w/ it!  So, I think make things appear shiny & new (that comes from having moved w/ the military over 8 times!) but honesty goes a long way.  I would just wipe stuff down half-arsedly and call it good.  Chances are no matter how much you clean the next folks will clean b/4 moving in anyhow.

Well I have done tons of cleaning...so much that my hands hurt.....the people I bought from definitely would have voted in the "Cleaning? Why should you it's not your house anymore" category!

Seven hours of cleaning just in the kitchen before I unpacked....I won't even scare you with how the bathrooms turned out....one of them we will be gutting this December...no amount of bleach can save it! (The walls are rotten...I leaned over on the tiles to clean the tub and fell through....the inspector missed that little tidbit!  mad2 )

We'll be following up with the house inspection company....they missed a few major items! I still would have bought the house...I just would have paid less! Bash

Well, I voted in the top to bottom - inside out option.  When I was moving a lot (it seems like), I always left the place better than I found it.  But, I always cleaned the new place too.  I dunno.....I'm probably over that now.  Knowing that whoever would be moving in to the place I vacated would be cleaning anyway, I'd probably do surface cleaning now.  Since I don't plan on moving......ever......it's probably a moot point.

Hi Jypsi.....good to see you. smiley
