Quit Calling Us Negative

Written by L J on September 3, 2008 – 7:24 pm -

I’ll keep this short and sweet.

Why do Mary Kay consultants show up here to tell us, very impolitely and usually rudely, how negative we are?

It always amazes me how nasty some of their chastizing comments can be, yet they come here to call us negative?

I think a lot of the anger, the need to call us negative, comes from fear. Fear that if you actually stopped and stepped back from the rah-rah of the Mary Kay cult-like experience that you might see the same things. And that’s scary because then you’d have to deal with lots of things. All the same things that so many of the women here had to deal with.

What is the Best Way to Tell a Mary Kay Lady to BUZZ OFF?!

Written by L J on August 31, 2008 – 1:07 pm -

I received this question from a visitor named Kristen yesterday and it made me laugh out loud! Here’s her entire message:

What is best way to tell a Mary Kay lady to BUZZ OFF? This woman keeps bothering me, wanting me to sell MK. She says things like- “Oh you would be so fun to work with!” and “You’d be really great!” She ends every message with a chipper “I look forward to hearing from you!” I keep politely hinting to her that I’m too busy, but she still keeps contacting me anyway. I thought I would ask all of you- what would YOU say to get an MK lady to GO AWAY! :)

Well? What would YOU say?    Help Kristen out. I’m sure she’d appreciate it!   :-D

When Did You Start Coming Out of the Pink Fog?

Written by L J on August 25, 2008 – 9:58 am -

There was talk on our forum lately about a particular incident or event that jolted people out of their “pink fog” acceptance of the things in Mary Kay.

Do you remember the thing that started your examination of things rather than just taking the word of your director or the company?

I’d like to hear about it.

Mary Kay Invades India — Part 2

Written by L J on August 19, 2008 – 6:59 pm -

As I was looking at Mary Kay’s India site, something hit me.

The models on the site.

When you market products, don’t you want your potential customers to see themselves using your brand? And shouldn’t your marketing materials reflect that?

Then tell me why the models on the Mary Kay India site are blondes and fair-skinned brunettes (with an occasional black woman thrown in) ?

Are there no beautiful Indian models they could put on the site? (Of course there are.)

But check out the picture of the models on the main page at the bottom:

Brenna Will Be Tearing Up That $100 Check She Wrote Yesterday

Written by L J on August 8, 2008 – 9:09 am -

Your Name: Brenna

Date Joined MK :
August 7, 2008

When Left MK or Still Active?: August 8, 2008

Initial Inventory Purchased:
None

How were you recruited?:

I recently moved to a new area and a lady randomly called me and said she wanted to welcome me to the neighborhood by giving me a bunch of free MK products and a free facial. (The “free products” were actually just a bag of those stupid paper samples tied with a ribbon–Thanks for adding to my recycling bin lady) That facial took 3 hours. My husband was pretty annoyed since it was his day off.

Memorable experience you had in MK:

The hilarious “scripts.”
